Authorities have begun Phase 2 in the search for an escaped DeSoto County inmate, and the reward for his capture is $10,000.
The new districts keep all six of the currently elected aldermen in their respective wards, and polling locations for each ward remain the same from the 2021 city elections with the exception of Ward 5.
This approval means the DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office will employ seven assistant district attorneys as it prepares to deliver more than 450 indictments, a total that would set a record for the county and the state.
“DeSoto County Schools has more money than it ever has,” said Stacey Graves, the district’s chief financial officer, during a presentation earlier this month. “That means we can do more things to move the district forward.”
From 2010 to 2020, the DeSoto County city’s population grew from less than 49,000 residents to almost 55,000. In 2000, Southaven’s population was around 29,000.
“Capt. Farish represents everything that is good in law enforcement,” said DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton as he presented Farish with his office’s Behind the Badge Award. “He represents everything we strive to emulate.”
With a new contract approved, DeSoto County Schools is altogether expected to spend more than $4 million on resource officers for the upcoming school year.
Designated as the third phase of Top of the ’Sipp, the pickleball facility will be called Bangers Pickleball and, if approved by the city, could open as soon as fall 2025.
The new location for the chicken tender chain would be the first in the area.
Delta Landing has broken ground across from the new Hernando High. The 250-acre development will include more than 500 single-family homes, about 90 condominiums and a separate senior living facility.
Both of the new principals currently work for the district as assistant principals at other schools.
Built in 1991, Horn Lake’s current animal shelter can hold 47 dogs, but right now, the facility is well past capacity with about 95 strays.
The passage rates at Hernando Hill Elementary and Lewisburg Elementary School were particularly high with success rates of 92.4% and 90.4%, respectively.
“Over the course of the next three to four years ... the airport’s going to be almost completely remodeled,” the airport’s manager said. “When it’s all completed, it’s going to be almost like a brand new airport.”
“Today’s decision reaffirms what we set out to do with this lawsuit, and that was to protect the rights of citizens of DeSoto County and their community,” former Southaven Mayor Greg Davis said.

Prosecutor Matthew Barton says a new judge under consideration in Hernando doesn’t hold the same hard line on crime as Barton. Meanwhile, the DeSoto County sheriff says there are more to the problems than those associated with Memphis.
Hernando Mayor Chip Johnson intends to nominate Bob Morris to a municipal judgeship when the city’s aldermen meet next on Tuesday, May 7.
“Everybody is constantly focused on Memphis, Memphis, Memphis,” Tuggle said. “I will say something that’s probably going to shock you. The most violent criminals trying to get into our county are not coming from Memphis.”
Starting Tuesday, April 23, through Saturday, April 27, the festival will offer games, rides and barbecue cooking contests.
