“So many people in Memphis, unfortunately, are pros at managing poverty,” Malcolm Rawls said. “The biggest challenge is breaking the shame and stigma around asking for help with money and money management.”
Without a revived contract with Memphis-Shelby County Schools, the Peer Power Foundation began working instead with area charter schools, board co-chair Dow McVean wrote in a public letter Wednesday.
A house fire led a Ridgeway student to consider dropping out to aid her family. A Peer Power mentor says, "She was just one step from leaving it all behind."
