Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, has received criticism lately for his work with the Trump administration.
“It was a movement that reshaped our city and strengthened the legacy of our beloved institution,” said Christopher Davis, president of LeMoyne-Owen College.
“We have families and rights. To see the children, who were having a good time, crying and terrified, was horrible,” said organizer Jenna Dunn. “It lit a fire inside of me that was already burning.”
Protesters against gun violence marched through the streets of Downtown Memphis on the Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday where the dead are honored and remembered. Those who took part in the march said they are tired of the gun violence in the city.
About 400 people participated in a march Sunday led by the University of Memphis football program from the South Campus on Goodlett Street, as players use their platform to "make a difference."
