Fireworks business booming leading up to Fourth of July

With July Fourth and the celebration of the United States’ 250th anniversary landing on a Saturday, fireworks retailers are expecting explosive sales over the next couple of days.
The U.S. fireworks industry has grown significantly in the past 25 years, with annual revenue from display and consumer fireworks jumping from around $610 million to nearly $3 billion over that span, according to stats from the American Pyrotechnics Association.
Despite that growth, there are only a few places inside Shelby County to buy fireworks, including Fireworks City at 3509 Canada Rd. in Lakeland and a couple of pop-up tents in Millington.
