As The Daily Memphian’s food and restaurant writer, she gives readers inside perspectives of their favorite restaurants and the people behind them, suggestions for the best bites around town and the latest food news from in and around Shelby County.
Hog & Hominy is a Brookhaven Circle staple tucked just off Poplar Avenue, surrounded by a jumble of restaurants and small businesses. Yet “Hog,” as it’s affectionately known, still manages to stand out — partly because it feels like a place for everyone.
Its namesake shows up in its signature dish, a must-order on a menu built around playful appetizers, hearty entrées and classic and seasonal brick-oven pizzas. The collards and hominy taste like Southern nostalgia in a bowl.
