Last summer, Pastor James Henderson took a sledgehammer to the interior of his former church, Abundant Life Fellowship Church on Knight Arnold Road.

“My dad took the sledgehammer and took the first jab at the stage to kind of say, ‘This is over and there’s a new chapter beginning,’ ” said Tara Crawford, Henderson’s daughter.

After her father took that first jab, Crawford — who was the church’s lead pastor and had been for about 10 years — took the next swing. Members of the congregation followed.
