Daily Jigsaw: Choctaw homecoming
Shelly Bell spent an untold number of hours, some of which she admitted left her flustered, helping to organize the Chucalissa Homecoming Festival held Saturday, April 11.
She spent all that time, suffered all that stress, for one reason: she wants her grandchildren, all 24 of them and counting with a set of twins on the way, to know who the Choctaw are, to know the history and culture of their people.
“I want to keep it going because I call it an investment. I’ve got grandchildren,” said Bell, a Covington resident. “I need for them to know that this culture, this heritage, is important, and I want them to know who they are and to be proud of who they are.”
