Three years after breaking ground on a $55-million renovation of the annex to the National Civil Rights Museum, leaders of the museum will open what is now called the “Legacy Experience” Saturday, May 16.

It opens to a public that in some cases is seeing the events in the museum as more than the past of long ago.

“It’s a reimagination of how we tell the ongoing story of civil and human rights in this country,” NCRM President Russ Wigginton said Friday during preview tours of the annex. “These galleries that you will experience ask visitors to move beyond observation and into reflection, accountability and action.”
