MSCS board picks new chair as takeover challenge looms

Tamarques Porter will chair the Memphis-Shelby County Schools board as the elected members stare down a legal fight with the state over how much power they will continue to have.
“I’ll let the courts decide what they’re going to decide,” Porter told The Daily Memphian. “As for my role as chair and for the board members in general, it’s our job to keep the main thing the main thing, and that’s student achievement.”
