With a desire to help with personnel, employee pay and infrastructure, Thomas Stephen Jr. is part of a four-candidate race seeking Bartlett’s Position 2 alderman office.

The results show 23.6% of Shelby County’s registered voters cast ballots.

The Shelby County Election Commission meets Monday, Aug. 22, to certify the August election results, including winners of the state and federal primaries from that ballot.

The qualifying deadline for the Nov. 8 election was Thursday at noon. In addition to the federal and state elections, Bartlett, Collierville, Germantown and Lakeland are holding municipal elections.

Angela Griffith has decided to seek another four-year term.

The race for the vacant Memphis City Council District 4 seat has already drawn four contenders, including the sister of a council member who gave up the seat following her victory in the August county elections.

Collierville alderman Billy Patton has decided to seek another term, three days before the filing deadline.

The Shelby County Commission votes on the problems in the County Clerk’s office, a $350 million commitment to rebuilding Regional One Health and the return of pay raises and bonuses for a consecutive year in county government.

Wanda Halbert says the office will be closed to the public during these periods.

C.J. Davis said on “Behind The Headlines” she is optimistic so far about reforms that were a major part of the hard-fought campaign that saw Steve Mulroy upset incumbent Amy Weirich. But she says the reaction from the police ranks is more mixed.

The council vote Tuesday, Aug. 9, followed a Democratic sweep last week in county elections and a failed ballot question on extending city term limits.

The resignation comes as the council debates whether or not to make changes to district lines ahead of the special election .

The new court is expected to hold full hearings on bail requests; its creation was prompted by threats of a lawsuit over the way bail is handled in Shelby County and the success of a similar lawsuit in another jurisdiction.
