At Germantown Festival, it’s all about weenies

By , Daily Memphian Published: September 06, 2025 3:13 PM CT

People had to be extremely careful where they walked at the Germantown Festival on Saturday afternoon because if they put their foot down in the wrong place, they might well hear a yelp and feel a nip at your ankle.

That’s because, once again, the Germantown Festival was overrun with miniature dachshunds, in part because of the quirky Running of the Weenies race held at the festival every year and in part because that breed seems to have become the official dog of the eastern Shelby County suburb.

The tiny little pups were everywhere: brown ones, black ones, mottled ones, all floppy ears and long snouts. Laura Mildren was there with her Cacio. Riley Strain brought Honey Girl. Brittany Prescher carried Little Dude.
