Ask the Memphian: Why a 65-foot radio tower still looms over Peabody

When Lisa Kennedy first bought her house on Peabody Avenue in 1994, she thought about tearing down the oddity in the front yard.
After talking to a few of her new neighbors, though, Kennedy quickly thought better of the idea.
That’s because the 65-foot radio tower that rises in her yard has become something of an iconic Midtown landmark over the past century, a relic that likely inspires curiosity every time somebody drives past it or walks their dog down the sidewalk.
