$1.6B in child support held up due to third-party vendor, judge alleges

A Memphis judge said Shelby County parents are missing $1.6 billion in child support payments and blamed the state’s new child support enforcement vendor, Veritas HHS, for a backlog of more than 28,000 cases.

The court cannot resolve these cases because Veritas either failed to file a petition or failed to move the case forward, according to Judge Tarik B. Sugarmon, who leads the Shelby County Juvenile Court.
