The Tigers dropped their Hoops for St. Jude Tip Off Classic preseason charity exhibition to No. 9 North Carolina 84-76 on Tuesday. 

Pippen impressed during summer league and is averaging 10.3 points and 4.3 assists in the preseason. He will give the Grizzlies a full-time backup point guard. 

In a high-stakes season with a massive hole in the middle of its lineup, the Grizzlies have placed a big bet on one of the game’s biggest players.

The University of Memphis will play Alabama in the Rocket City Classic, a charity exhibition game in Huntsville, Alabama, on Oct. 28.

Twenty-two years ago, Derek Clenin blocked an extra point to lift MUS over CBHS. Clenin died Oct. 8. Now, the quarterback of that CBHS team, Carter Giovannetti, plans to run the St. Jude Marathon in his friend and rival’s name.

Rookie center Zach Edey turned in the dominant paint performance that Grizzlies fans hoped to see on Monday at Indiana.
