Early last week came word of a seismic shakeup in the golf world — news of the PGA Tour’s plans for two series starting in 2028, one the so-called Championship Series with about 15 high-level tournaments and the other 20 lesser events that will be part of the so-called Challenger Series.

It ends with Memphis golf fans, perhaps rightfully so, fearful over the future of the FedEx St. Jude Championship beyond next year.

Two of three possibilities arguably could spell doom for the event.
