The men’s and women’s Memphis Tigers teams played scrimmages at the Showcase, which were the highlights of the Tigers’ 2024-25 season tipoff event. 

The Tigers’ two-hour practice session — with NBA scouts courtside — consisted of drill work and run-throughs of various offensive sets and concluded with a five-on-five, full-court scrimmage.

Fans have waited for their turn to celebrate a move to a Power Conference for years. The new-look Pac-12 no longer qualifies for that distinction, but some believed it would be better than the AAC.

“It really came down to what our future looks like,” Ed Scott said. “... The financials were not there.”

Memphis basketball teams will have a new tipoff event — the Blue and Gray Showcase Friday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m. inside Elma Roane Fieldhouse.

“I’m loyal to where I’m at,” Hardaway said. “Obviously, the AAC is a better conference than people are giving it credit for.”

What respected national sports journalists say regarding a decision that will shape the future of Memphis Tigers athletics. The decision reportedly could come as soon as Monday, Sept. 23.
