The University of Memphis Tigers point guard scored a game-high 26 points but made a miscue late in an overtime loss to Tulane.

Memphis fans thronged to FedExForum to celebrate Lorenzen Wright, Larry Finch and the Memphis Tigers. Then the game happened. For reasons that are becoming all too familiar, it did not go well. 

Coach Penny Hardaway’s squad had four players score in double-digit points, but its lackluster defensive effort, 22 turnovers and missed free throws ultimately allowed the Green Wave (15-7, 8-3 AAC) to come out on top.

What to look for in Memphis’ rematch versus Tulane

Though the late Wright won’t be there to see his jersey retirement ceremony, those who knew him best can imagine him savoring the occasion the only way he knew how.

Memphis will take on Tulane at 1 p.m. Saturday at FedExForum in a rematch of its New Year’s Day loss in New Orleans.

Duren has averaged 8.4 points and 8.5 rebounds through 44 games played for Detroit this season.

While Penny Hardaway knows the boost the return of Malcolm Dandridge and Alex Lomax could give Memphis, he’s also cautious about the impact it could have on the team’s chemistry.

Billy Richmond Jr., a former Memphis Tiger, said Hardaway “thinks the world” of his son, Billy Richmond III. John Calipari also likes his son, as a complement to a five-star player. 

Davis poured in 26 points to save the day in an 80-68 win for the Tigers (17-5, 7-2 AAC) over Tulsa on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers’ four-star duo Mikey Williams and JJ Taylor had big games for San Ysidro High School (San Diego) in a late tip-off Saturday on ESPN2.

When Memphis takes on Tulsa on the road Sunday, it’ll mark the third time in the past four games where it’ll face a team in the bottom half of the AAC standings.

On a night when the Memphis’ usually outspoken leader wouldn’t say much about his accomplishment, his players spoke for him.

Davis scored 25 points to go with 11 assists and seven rebounds to lead his Memphis Tigers (16-5, 6-2 AAC) to a 99-84 win over SMU.
