Playoff chase: Tracking top Group of Five teams

The latest College Football Playoff rankings were announced Tuesday night, Dec. 3, and it appears the Mountain West Championship will be a play-in game for the playoff.

No. 10 Boise State has been the highest-ranked ranked Group of Five school in each of the CFP rankings. The only school that can derail the Broncos’ chances is No. 20 UNLV, their title game opponent. If the Rebels win, the rankings suggest they will take the playoff spot. No. 24 Army and No. 25 Memphis are the other two Group of Five schools included in the rankings.

It’s the first time the Tigers have been included in the CFP rankings since 2019. Memphis, however, will not be able to play its way into playoff contention because it did not qualify for the AAC Championship.
