Once again this season, The Daily Memphian will be spotlighting a high school girls basketball Player of the Week.

And we still need your help.

Each Monday, we’ll list candidates from the previous week’s games and fans can vote on their pick for the week’s top player. Thanks to our partnership with OrthoSouth, player of the week stories will now be free to access, with no payment or subscription required to vote for the Fans’ Choice Player of the Week.

Voting ends at 5 p.m. each Thursday.

Our staff will also choose a Player of the Week — the OrthoSouth Grizzlies Player of the Week.

Some weeks we may agree; some we may not. But we still want the fans to make their voices heard.

Here are the candidates for this week, which includes games played through Feb. 7.

Bella Rose Austin, Harding: Austin has produced several big games for the Lions. Her latest came in a 50-41 victory over Lausanne on Feb. 5 in which she finished with 22 points, eight rebounds, three assists and four steals while playing the full 32 minutes.

Kaylei Evans, Lausanne: Evans made 4-of-7 3-pointers and scored 14 points in her team’s 50-41 loss to Lausanne on Feb. 5. Two days later, the junior made four more triples and scored 15 points in a 54-46 victory over Northpoint.

Ava Jones, Hutchison: Jones will be in the Division 2-AA Miss Basketball conversation thanks to performances like the ones she had last week. She had 17 points, 13 rebounds and four steals as the Sting downed St. Agnes, 64-41, then went for 21 points and 10 rebounds in a 64-19 Senior Night victory over St. Benedict.

Jaliyah Kelly, Collierville: Kelly’s efforts were very much appreciated as the Dragons held off arch-rival Houston, 61-59, in overtime on Feb. 7. She finished with 21 points and nine rebounds as Collierville improved to 16-6.
