Collierville Safe Haven baby box is Shelby County’s first

Shelby County’s first Safe Haven Baby Box is open in Collierville, and parents can surrender newborns anonymously and legally at the suburb’s newest fire station.
Fire Station No. 6 is near Collierville High at 1670 E. Shelby Drive, and the box is located on the west side of the building. Before Collierville added the feature to the recently opened station, the closest boxes were in Atoka in Tipton County and Forrest City, Arkansas, about 45 miles west of Memphis.
A ceremonial blessing of the box was held Wednesday morning and is available to receive babies.
