‘Spandex gang,’ fire chief’s supporters fill Collierville Town Hall

Bikers and numerous supporters of Collierville Fire Chief John Selberg filled the suburb’s board chambers Monday for the town’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting.

The two items are some of the most-discussed issues in the town for different reasons. The bicycle matter — mainly dealing with e-bikes and where they are allowed — got some extra attention when an alderman called the cyclists the “spandex gang.” The Selberg matter has led to controversy in the last week after he was placed on administrative leave with pay until town leaders could decide his fate.
