Buckley: 25 years after winning in Memphis, Bob Estes returns to see old friends and remember good times

Tim is a veteran sportswriter who graduated from CBHS in Memphis and the University of Missouri. He previously covered LSU sports in Baton Rouge, and the University of Louisiana football and basketball for The Daily Advertiser/USA TODAY Network in Lafayette, the NBA’s Utah Jazz for the Deseret News in Salt Lake City, the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning for the St. Petersburg Times in Florida, and West Texas State basketball for the Amarillo Globe News in Texas.

On Sunday, Aug. 16, with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler working comfortably to hold off the field in the FedEx St. Jude Championship, Bob Estes stepped into The Phil Cannon Media Center tent at TPC Southwind and saw a familiar face.

Doug Ferguson has been The Associated Press’ golf writer since 1998.

As Estes said hello, Ferguson’s mind raced — and soon perspective set in.
