Morning, Memphis. It’s Thursday, Sept. 11, Patriot Day, not to be confused with Patriots’ Day. The former (today) commemorates the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the U.S., and the latter (in April) is related to the start of the American Revolutionary War in 1775.
In more Memphis-y news, Celtic Crossing is reopening today — just in time for Cooper-Young Fest — with a new patio. The Irish pub’s previous patio was taken out by an SUV earlier this summer.
Could National Guard come to Memphis? That’s apparently being discussed. But legal restrictions would limit their power.
ICE facility up and running: A nearby former prison is housing detained immigrants, less than a month after it was approved.
Haley is out: One of the three former Memphis police officers convicted in the death of Tyré Nichols, is a free from prison — for now.
Bar fixes its mis-steak: A Downtown beer spot makes good on a bad food order.
Off the cliff: The nationwide college “enrollment cliff” has hit the University of Memphis, but school officials see some positives in the numbers.
