The Mountain West Conference claimed the Group of Five spot in the first 12-team format of the College Football Playoff.

The Broncos are ranked No. 9 in the final CFP rankings, which were released Sunday. It is the final ranking before the postseason begins. Not only is Boise State the top-ranked Group of Five conference champion, but the Broncos are the third-highest-ranked champion in the country and earned a No. 3 seed in the College Football Playoffs. The top five-ranked conference champions receive automatic bids while the top four earn a bye in the first week.
