DeSoto judicial candidate wants to be added to supervisor’s lawsuit

By , Daily Memphian Published: July 09, 2026 6:16 PM CT

A DeSoto County Chancery Court candidate wants to be added as a defendant in Supervisor Robert Foster’s lawsuit against the State of Mississippi.

Foster filed suit last week alleging a judicial subdistrict created by the Mississippi Legislature last year is racially discriminatory against white voters and would unfairly allow a small portion of the county to elect two new judges that would have control of the entire county.

The state Legislature gave the county new Circuit and Chancery courts judges last year but mandated those positions be elected only by a small portion of voters in the new subdistrict, most of who reside in Horn Lake.
