FedEx released a statement on Thursday, Nov. 6, saying it’s monitoring the FAA’s plans to adjust nationwide flight capacity and is developing the “necessary operational modifications.”
The Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority board approved $57 million in funding for a portion of the Memphis International Airport’s $700 million renovation.
The peak days are expected to see about 11,000 passengers per day.
More than 850 participants ranging in age from 4 to 92 are expected for the inaugural Runway 5K at Memphis International Airport.
The airport improvements, funded in part by $50.6 million in federal grants, will take about six years.
Labor Day weekend travelers are advised to arrive at the airport two hours before their scheduled departure time.
The additional flights will begin on March 6, 2026.
“Memphis International Airport isn’t just the busiest cargo airport in North America; it’s a critical gateway for passengers and businesses,” said Congressman Steve Cohen in a release. “These federal resources strengthen our economy, support jobs, and ensure Memphis remains connected as a vital hub to the rest of the world.”
The Atlanta-based company will oversee security, customer assistance and more.
Memphis International Airport is to be renamed after Frederick W Smith, the late founder and executive chairman of FedEx.
“With many University of Tennessee students and alumni based in Memphis, this route provides an affordable and fast alternative to driving,” said Michael Keeney, chairman of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority Board of Commissioners.
Upcoming construction will make parking a breeze at Memphis International Airport.
Breeze representatives also celebrated the airline’s first flight today between Memphis and Tampa.
Starting May 8, Spirit Airlines will offer direct flights between Memphis International Airport and Detroit Metro Airport four days a week: Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday. Related content:
The airline is set to close its base of operations at Los Angeles International Airport, leaving the Memphis airport with one less flight to LAX.
Crews are focusing on preventing ice and snow buildup on runways and taxiways while also clearing ramps, service roads, terminal roadways and more.
The three-story building will feature a rooftop observation deck that will overlook the airfield and be used for community outreach.
FedEx released a service alert Thursday saying delays and disruptions for inbound and outbound shipments are possible “due to local conditions and restrictions.”
