Republican Brent Taylor flipped Tennessee’s new 9th Congressional District Tuesday, Nov. 3, delivering the party the win it sought through a swift redistricting effort that diluted the state’s lone Democratic stronghold by carving majority-Black Memphis into thirds.
“I am so humbled and honored and grateful to be elected the next governor of the great state of Tennessee,” Blackburn said, declaring herself the victor.
Hatcher largely eschewed campaigning in Shelby County.
The Germantown incumbent defeated Democratic challenger and former Shelby County Criminal Court clerk Heidi Kuhn for Tennessee’s 8th Congressional District seat, which covers much of Memphis and its northeastern suburbs.
Tony Salvaggio was elected mayor of Germantown, while Josh Roman defeated Connie McCarter for the top office in Lakeland. Mayor David Parsons was unopposed in his reelection bid in Bartlett.
