Flights from Memphis International Airport will depart daily.

The Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority has selected an in-house candidate to become its new president and CEO after Scott Brockman retires. 

FedEx said it decided to relocate its pilots and close its Cologne, Germany, 757 crew base and its MD-11 crew bases in Anchorage, Alaska, and Los Angeles as the “global business environment continues to evolve.”

The supply chain and logistics industry’s workforce has grown 25% over the past decade in the Memphis area.

Monday’s drive marked the beginning of a new era of giving for the logistics giant, after reaching its 50 million goal early in February.

FedExForum, national golf tournaments, pandas, the area’s growing medical device industry, its IT sector — leaders say they couldn’t have happened without FedEx. 

An estimated $1.6 billion in annual payroll from FedEx underwrites much of the local economy.

Before a strike can take place, the National Mediation Board must first decide that additional mediation efforts would not be productive and offer the parties an opportunity to arbitrate the contract dispute.

Instead of limiting its giving to monetary donations, FedEx relied heavily on in-kind shipping to reach its goal of helping 50 million people by the date of its 50th anniversary.

At the FedEx Institute of Technology, they’re ensuring Memphis isn’t a data science or artificial intelligence desert. 

In February, when rain and freezing temperatures layered trees and buildings in ice, more than 70 daytime airfield employees spent three nights at the airport — working and sleeping in shifts to keep the runways open.

The executive leadership team at FedEx — guided by CEO Raj Subramaniam — will have to demonstrate to its stockholders that it is the right team to lead the company out of turbulent waters and into the future. 

Following the announcement that FedEx’s operating companies will consolidate into one organization, the delivery giant’s stock was up by more than 1.2%.

FedEx stock was up more than 10% following an earnings release last week, with numbers high enough that the company increased its forecast for the full fiscal year.

FedEx says continued demand weakness, particularly at FedEx Express, affected its most recent earnings period. 

Federal government data shows train derailments have been fairly common in Shelby County over the past five years.

Avelo will be the only airline offering nonstop service to Raleigh-Durham International Airport, which serves Raleigh, Durham and the surrounding Research Triangle region of North Carolina. 

 The peak day for this season is expected to be Friday, March 10, with more than 9,000 people projected to pass through the checkpoint.
