The Tigers will look to rebound from the 16-point loss they took to now-No. 18 Villanova last week in the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Veteran criminal defense attorney Randy Grossman said Williams’ other eight felony charges were dismissed but that a decision about whether the 4-star guard can play would be “completely up to the school.”

Victories this week against Michigan and No. 20 Arkansas could vault Memphis into the Associated Press basketball poll. If, that is, voters can overlook an ugly loss to Villanova.

“We needed something like this,” said Memphis guard Jahvon Quinerly, who called the Tigers’ 16-point loss in the Battle 4 Atlantis final a wake-up call.

“Even though the last day of the trip to Nassau was a real bummer, this week was a net success for Penny Hardaway and his program.”

Memphis lost to Villanova Friday.

The Tigers were amped up, but less than 15 minutes into the game it was apparent coach Penny Hardaway’s team would not be heading back to the 901 with any sort of hardware.

The Tigers have a chance to pick up their third win in three days and undoubtedly put the college basketball world on notice.

“He’s definitely one of the best players to come through the university, for sure,” Tigers coach Penny Hardaway said of David Jones after Jones’ 36-point performance against No. 20 Arkansas on Thursday.

Coaches from both sides shared their thoughts on the historic rivalry between Memphis and Arkansas after the Tigers’ win over the Razorbacks on Thursday night. 

David Jones finished with 36 points on 10-14 shooting (4-8 from 3) to go with four rebounds and two assists to help the Tigers defeat the 20th-ranked Razorbacks in the semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Here is the box score for the game between the University of Memphis Tigers and Arkansas Razorbacks in the semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis on Thursday, Nov. 23, in the Bahamas.

Memphis and Arkansas will renew an old rivalry in the Bahamas. The last time the two teams met was in January 2003.

The Tigers saw the Wolverines cut what was once 16-point lead down to one, but ended up gutting out a victory anyway. It was in large part thanks to Hardaway’s 17 points and 5-7 shooting from deep.

Memphis will face at least five teams that are currently ranked in the top 50 of KenPom through its next nine games.

Memphis has an opportunity to earn national respect this week in the Battle 4 Atlantis. The Tigers’ first game in the three-game tournament is against a Michigan team hungry to bounce back from an upset loss to Long Beach State.
