After nearly 200 years, First Pres seeks to sell historic Downtown property

First Presbyterian Church, a local institution with 198 years of history, has taken steps toward selling its Downtown property.
The second-oldest church in Memphis, known as “First Pres,” has been at the corner of Poplar Avenue and B.B. King Boulevard since 1832, and its current building dates to 1884.
The church’s leadership on Sept. 8 voted to move forward with seeking a buyer and “discerning a new home for our congregation,” according to a Facebook post.
